Illness - What to Do
If the student is unwell or is likely to be late for any reason, they are expected to telephone the school first thing in the morning. If they are too unwell to telephone themselves, we ask you to contact the Lewis School on their behalf.
In accordance with the required level of care, we ask you to take your student to our doctor or dentist, or assist them in contacting the NHS Helpline (NHS 111) in the event of illness/injury and inform the school. In the event that they are too unwell to attend school, we ask you to make suitable arrangements for the student to stay at home (please note that juniors need to be supervised).
My student is ill but I need to leave for work!
Adult Students
In this case, the student should stay home alone. If applicable, you or our welfare staff will help the student to contact NHS111 for advice.
Junior Students
Please contact the school and our welfare team will discuss the best solution with you.
Depending on the situation, this could include bringing the student to the school and finding a place at the school for the student to rest, the student staying at home and the group leader (if applicable) going to your home to accompany the student, or the student staying at home on their own but maintaining contact via phone.
If applicable, you or our welfare staff will help the student to contact NHS111 for advice.
